ABOUT FARRAH ANDERSON

Farrah Anderson is an award-winning investigative reporter based in the Midwest, focused on exposing injustice and holding powerful institutions accountable. Her work centers on systemic failures in policing, healthcare, and incarceration — and the people most affected by them.Her reporting has compelled police departments to release long-withheld records after fatal shootings, uncovered misconduct that led to criminal charges being dropped, and prompted statewide action on debunked medical diagnoses used in death-in-custody cases. In a collaborative investigation with the Invisible Institute, Illinois Public Media, and The Intercept, Anderson helped reveal the extensive misconduct record of an Illinois sheriff’s deputy involved in a fatal shooting — work that drew national attention, spurred civil rights action, and earned the 2025 Richard H. Driehaus Award for Investigative Journalism.She is currently an Investigative Reporter with WFYI and Side Effects Public Media and an Investigative Reporting Fellow with the Invisible Institute. She also works as a freelance reporter for The New York Times, with bylines in NPR, The Intercept, The Appeal, and outlets across the Midwest.Previously, Anderson reported at St. Louis Public Radio and the Investigative Reporting Workshop in Washington, D.C, and began her career at WILL–Illinois Public Media. A Central Illinois native, she studied journalism at the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign and Peace and Conflict Studies at Uppsala University in Sweden.
