About Farooq Ameen
Farooq Ameen is Principal at City Design Studio LLC, an architecture and urban design firm dedicated to repositioning communities by implementation of strategic development and creation of memorable places through an integrated consensus building process. Ameen is a member of the Board of Directors of the A+D Architecture and Design Museum in Los Angeles, a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and a member of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) and studied at the University of California, Los Angeles. His works, writings, and exhibitions have been widely published. Ameen’s first publication entitled “The South Asian Paradigm” was published in 1997. He has held academic appointments at various schools including Sci-Arc, Woodbury, Calpoly Pomona and the Bauhaus, Dessau and lectured at Columbia University, BDA (the German Institute of Architects) among others. In 1995, he founded the International Center for Urban Studies originally at SCI-Arc. The Center conducted interdisciplinary workshops with architects/urban designers, political leadership and communities in Berlin, Zurich, Los Angeles, Dessau and Dhaka, engaging designers in advanced urban design exploration. Ameen is a recipient of awards and commendations for projects that include urban design and master planning of city centers as well as institutional, residential and mixed-use projects in California and Germany. Recent projects include the Crenshaw/LAX Transit Corridor Station Area Planning in Los Angeles, the E-Street Urban Block TOD Plan in San Bernardino, the South Asian University Urban Design Plan in New Delhi and the Manas Township near Mumbai, IndiaSpecialties: Urban Design and Planning, Mixed-Use, Institutional and Residential Design
