I am looking after a Peritoneal Dialysis patient at home fulfilling his physical, psychological and emotional needs. I am performing a ‘Renal Technician’ role as well and set up home dialysis machine every night according to the patient’s regime. I check patient’s weight and blood pressure and attach him to the machine for dialysis and attend the machine alarms during the night, using problem solving skills. In the morning, I detach patient from machine, keep the manual record of dialysis markers and check his weight and blood pressure. Thereafter, I dispose off used dialysis fluids and equipment according to Infection Prevention and Control guidelines. Every other day, I help patient in shower and look after exit site with fresh dressing according to the care plan. I administer patient’s medication and weekly injection to boost his haemoglobin. I drove patient to the gym for moderate exercise and to the hospital for medical appointments. I attend my patient every day during the hospital admissions. I cook meals for my patient keeping in view blood reports and under the guidance of the dietician.I do have an afternoon slot free to help peritoneal dialysis patients, in the close vicinity if needed.
