About Farid Khan
With 26 years in pharmaceutical research and development and currently as Director of Evidence Generation at Novartis, I have led the execution of real-world evidence (RWE) and observational studies for US and Global Medical Affairs teams to support the clinical development of disease-modifying therapies for neuroscience and rare disease indications - Myathenia Gravis, ALS, Rett Syndrome, Friedreich\'s Ataxia and Spinal Muscular Atrophy.I am excited about the FDA releasing the following statement recently:\"We\'re removing unnecessary barriers that have prevented us from using powerful real-world evidence to get life-changing treatments to patients faster.\" It is an endorsement of the crucial role of real-world evidence in the drug development process.I am particulary passionate about advancing innovative and transformational treatments that enhance the lives of patients and their families that are struggling with rare disease. Having been part of the launch of a gene replacement therapy for SMA, a rare genetic neuromuscular disorder, has allowed me to witness first-hand the tremendous impact it has had.In my early years of medical training as a young surgeon it was impressive to see immediate results on the health of patients I operated on. As a researcher, I am excited by the promise of gene therapies and their potential to be just as impactful or even more so for complicated medical conditions with enormous burden of disease.
