I focus on high-stakes appellate advocacy in patent and life sciences matters. Most recently, as Solicitor of the United States Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO), I served as the agency’s chief IP litigation attorney, leading strategy in hundreds of Federal Circuit appeals and numerous high-profile Supreme Court matters that shaped modern patent doctrine and USPTO practice. I also served as a principal advisor on national IP policy and interagency coordination. In that role, I helped shape how the intellectual property legal system influences innovation across pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, and diagnostics.My practice is grounded in scientific and technical fluency developed through a Master of Science in Cellular and Molecular Pharmacology, and earlier work as a cancer researcher. This background, combined with decades of experience at the intersection of science and intellectual property law, allows me to offer practical, scientifically informed counsel in life sciences appeals and district court litigation.My unique credentials and experience are ideally suited to help clients identify appellate leverage points, preserve and frame issues for review, and navigate the full lifecycle of IP disputes—from PTAB and district court through the Federal Circuit and the Supreme Court.
