ABOUT FARHAN KALAKAR

I am a PhD Scholar at IISER Bhopal, where I pursue my passion for chemical biology and medicinal chemistry, exploring the synthesis and biological evaluation of novel natural products and analogues. I have a strong foundation and aptitude in chemistry, as evidenced by my high score in the GATE-CY-2023 exam, a national-level test for admission to postgraduate programs in engineering and science.Prior to joining IISER Bhopal, I completed my master\'s degree in chemistry from WBSU, where I gained valuable research experience and skills through my master\'s project at CSIR-IICB. I worked on the total synthesis of a complex natural product using organocatalysis and asymmetric synthesis techniques, and published a paper on my findings in a reputed journal. I also learned and applied flash chromatography methods for purification and analysis of organic compounds during a skill initiative programme at my academic achievements, I have also demonstrated my communication and problem-solving skills through various extracurricular activities. I presented a poster and a lecture on the chemistry behind pocket at a national seminar, and secured the runner-up position in a national chemiquiz competition. I am a quick learner, an inquisitive thinker, and an open-minded person who always looks forward to nurturing emerging scientific aspects and cross-combining chemistry and biology. My goal is to contribute to the advancement and innovation of synthetic chemical biology and medicinal chemistry, and to make a positive impact on human health and society.
