About Paolo Faraboschi
The intersection of computing architectures, tools and applications has been the driving theme throughout my research career. I recently joined ARM\'s Systems Engineering group as VP Performance Engineering. This is a role that takes me back to the foundational work of my career in the \'90s — building new processor architectures, designing compilers, optimizing toolchains, and co-designing applications to make them fly.I led the \"AI Research Lab\" at HPE Labs until September 2025, researching how to advance AI and ML technology for HPE customer and within HPE products.I previously led research on High Performance Computing, the Exascale strategy, and was the co-PI of HPE\'s PathForward program, in collaboration with the US Dept. of Energy. The Machine project (2014-) developed a computing test bed to explore large memory systems and the future of large-scale, fabric-attached, non-volatile technologies. The Moonshot project at HP (20••••13), to which I contributed evolving the vision from concept to product, is a hyperscale server platform based on software-defined low-power server that leverage SoC technology. The Custom-Fit Processors project at HPL Cambridge (19••••03), pioneered the area of customized embedded VLIW architectures. Processors born from that effort (the ST200/Lx family of VLIW cores), where I had a key role for almost a decade, are now being widely used in the audio, video and imaging consumer industry.Specialties: invention-to-products research experience, low-power servers, hyperscale servers, compilers, processor architectures, microarchitecture, VLSI design, VLIW architectures, embedded systems, audio, video and imaging devices, application acceleration, simulation, performance tuning
