About Faiyaz Mahmud Nirob
Faiyaz Mahmud Nirob is a Stamps Scholar and rising Junior double majoring in Biology and Chemistry at Barry University. At Barry, Faiyaz serves as a Research Assistant in three labs. In Dr. John Boulos’ lab, he synthesized and characterized M1-selective muscarinic receptor agonists for Alzheimer’s treatment using NMR, IR, and MS spectroscopy. Under Dr. Tamara Hamilton, he is currently exploring porphyrin-based Bis-pocket nanoparticles for photodynamic cancer therapy. In Dr. Stephanie Bingham’s lab, he investigates microplastic-induced toxicity in zebrafish embryos to assess human fetal health risks. He is also completing a summer research program at Larkin University under Dr. Taraman Kadayat, contributing to projects at the intersection of pharmacology, oncology, and computational chemistry.Faiyaz participated in two medical mission trips to the Bahamas (2024, 2025), providing podiatric care to over 2,200 underserved patients and earning a Certificate of Appreciation from the Bahamian Minister of Health. Additionally, during a 2024 clinical internship in the Dominican Republic, he assisted in 260+ pediatric, geriatric, and general checkups through the International Health Alliance.Outside the lab and clinic, Faiyaz serves as a Chemistry and Physics Tutor and Lab Teaching Assistant, helping students succeed in rigorous STEM courses. He also holds multiple leadership roles on campus, including President of the Chemistry Club, where he promotes scientific outreach, and Student Government Senator, where he represent the voice of students and advocates for student needs.
