ABOUT FAISAL LAWAN

I\'m a Mechatronics Engineering graduate from the University of Manchester, where I finished with First-Class Honours and a few awards I’m quietly proud of—including the department prize for best overall performance and the university’s Outstanding Achievement Award.What drives me is the challenge of turning elegant theory into working systems. That mindset has shaped most of what I’ve done, from my final-year project on distributed model predictive control for multi-robot systems to a 13-month placement at Altera (Intel), where I implemented Google\'s Snappy compression algorithm on an FPGA, end-to-end. This meant writing VHDL, simulating it, building a testbench, and ensuring that every edge case was accounted for. Along the way, I developed a deeper respect for rigour, system-level thinking, and the joy (and pain) of hardware debugging.I’m particularly interested in robotics, control theory, and embedded systems—areas where mathematics and code intersect with physical reality. Beyond the technical side, I care about clarity in communication and building a strong engineering community. I led peer-assisted study sessions, represented my peers as a Student Rep, and was awarded the Stellify Award for my outreach work.If you\'re working on control systems, robotics, or embedded hardware—and want to bounce ideas, collaborate, or just chat—I’d be keen to connect.
