About Fabrizio Prati
I am an urban designer with 15 years of experience designing cities that put people first. As the Director of Design and Research at the Global Designing Cities Initiative, I oversee the design and research work across the various programs and regions of the organization.I joined the GDCI team in 2015, leading projects and activities under the BIGRS program focusing on safe and sustainable street design. Since then, I have been able to work on projects in North and South America, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, India and Southeast Asia, and Australasia. As my first task at GDCI, I worked on the creation of the Global Street Design Guide, the first global set of guidelines for street design. The guide was created with the input of experts from 72 cities in 42 countries, offering technical details to inform street design that prioritizes people.I bring to the team years of experience as an urban designer and planner working in two nationally and internationally recognized practices based in Paris, gaining experience in projects that range from street/neighborhood scale to city and regional master planning in Europe, North Africa, Middle East, and South-East Asia. In my previous experience, I participated in several urban studies, master plans, zoning, and planning documents, which involved resident and citizen participation procedures. I worked in multidisciplinary teams, which allowed me to develop a great polyvalence and good communication skills. My interests stretch from people-centered, resilient, and sustainable planning and design, flexible and adaptive urbanism, to active and sustainable mobility and public space design.I am passionate about cities and curious about developing creative ways to make them more livable, inclusive, and sustainable.
