Current Project: Conducting computational genomic analyses to investigate the genetic architecture of Wisdom and its relationship with psychiatric, cognitive, and health-related traits- Genomic Analysis: Performing Linkage Disequilibrium Score Regression (LDSC) to estimate genetic correlations (rg) between Wisdom and a broad panel of phenotypes, including depression (MDD), educational attainment, and substance use disorders- Data Visualization & Clustering: Developing Python pipelines (Pandas, SciPy, Seaborn) to visualize phenotypic and genetic relationships, including clustering to identify distinct phenotypic profiles- High-Performance Computing: Managing large-scale GWAS summary statistics and executing batch analysis scripts in a Linux/Bash environment on the Triton Shared Computing Cluster (TSCC)- Statistical Methods: Applying advanced statistical techniques to parse complex trait relationships, including constructing genetic correlation matrices and conducting phenotypic association testing.

ABOUT FABRIZIO MALATESTA
I am a Bioinformatics student at UC San Diego with a deep interest in the intersection of biological data and computational modeling. My academic foundation combines a major in Biology (Specialization in Bioinformatics) with a minor in Computer Science, providing me with the interdisciplinary toolkit necessary to tackle complex genomic questions.My research trajectory has allowed me to contribute to several world-class institutions- Sanchez-Roige Lab (UCSD): Currently investigating the genetic architecture of complex traits as an Undergraduate Researcher- McVicker Lab (Salk Institute): Focused on computational genomics during an intensive 8-week UC LEADS & STARS internship- Mueller Lab (Salk Institute): Developed foundational research skills and contributed to a project analyzing arbuscular mycorrhiza symbiosis, gaining a broader perspective on biological systems- Mitochondria and Neurodegeneration Lab (Weill Cornell Medicine): Early exposure to clinical research and laboratory fundamentals that sparked my interest in the molecular basis of disease.I am particularly passionate about- Computational Genomics & Statistical Genetics: Leveraging large-scale data to understand disease mechanisms- Algorithmic Development: Applying data structures and runtime analysis to biological pipelines- Interdisciplinary Research: Bridging the gap between \"wet lab\" biological questions and \"dry lab\" computational solutions.I am also a UC LEADS Scholar, actively preparing to pursue a Ph.D. to further explore the potential of Bioinformatics in improving human health. When I’m not in the lab or at the computer, you can usually find me rock climbing, training Muay Thai, or following the latest in soccer.
