About Fabiola Torres de Parra
I am a mechanical engineering student at the University of Colorado Boulder. Through my coursework, I discovered a strong passion for understanding how systems work mathematically and how analytical data can be translated into a functioning machine.I enjoy understanding the deeper workings of machines and being able to contribute to larger engineering decisions based on that insight. I have developed a strong foundation in machine work through my projects, and I hope to continue building my skills and growing as an engineer.Outside of academics, I enjoy any activity that requires consistency and discipline, such as running. I completed my first marathon in Chicago and plan to continue participating in future marathons.

Logistics Manager

I am working on a sponsored senior design project through Project S.E.R.V.E. in collaboration with Craig Hospital in Denver, designing an assistive fishing launcher for disabled veteran patients. This project involves taking a mechanical system from concept through design, manufacturing, assembly, and testing while working within real client needs, constraints, and timelines. I regularly communicate with the client and project leadership to understand requirements, receive feedback, and make sure the final design delivers what the client is asking for in a practical and manufacturable way.I am independently responsible for most of the mechanical engineering drawings for the project. I create and maintain detailed drawings, verify alignment between CAD models and drawings, and update designs when inconsistencies are found or changes are needed. I routinely review and modify CAD parts to improve manufacturability by simplifying features, adjusting tolerances, and ensuring compatibility with machine shop capabilities.I work closely with the machine shop to confirm allowed materials and processes and to get drawings approved before manufacturing begins. I also manufacture many of the components myself using mills, lathes, and Haas CNC equipment, which has given me a strong understanding of how design decisions affect fit, quality, and assembly.Alongside the technical work, I manage day-to-day project logistics. This includes assigning team tasks, coordinating manufacturing, testing, and electronics schedules, tracking the project budget in Excel, handling purchasing and quotes, and managing tax-exempt documentation. I also support assembly and performance testing of the final prototype and help implement design updates based on testing results. This role has given me hands-on engineering experience while strengthening my organization, communication, and client-focused problem-solving skills.
