About Fabiana Lopes
I am a New York and São Paulo-based Art Curator, Scholar, and Ph.D. candidate in Performance Studies at New York University, where I am a Corrigan Doctoral Fellow. My research centers on the contemporary production of artists of the African diaspora in Brazil and the Americas. I was adjunct curator for the Bienal 12 | Porto Alegre “Feminino(s): visualidades, ações e afetos” (2020). My essays have appeared in Cadernos Pagu, NKA: Journal of Contemporary African Art, Contemporary And (C & ), O Menelick 2o Ato, ARTE!Brasileiros, Harper’s Bazaar Art, and in exhibition catalogues such as Feminino(s): Visualidades, Ações e Afetos (Bienal do Mercosul, Porto Alegre, 2020), Rosana Paulino: The Sewing of Memory (Pinacoteca, São Paulo, 2018), Lucia Laguna: Neighborhood (MASP, São Paulo, 2018), Minnette Vári: Of Darkness and Of Light (Johannesburg, 2016), Territories: Artists of African Descent at Pinacoteca’s Collection (Pinacoteca, São Paulo, 2015).

I am currently engaged in a long-term project aiming to raise international visibility to a specific contemporary artistic production from Brazil-Curated the solo exhibition \"Lidia Lisboa: em tramas,\" Galeria Rabieh Gallery, São Paulo, February 2015-Curated the performance Priscila Rezende,\"Bombril\" at Galeria Rabieh, September 2014-Curatorial Assistant to Simon Watson for the large scale exhibition project \"Feito por Brasileiros/Made by Brazilians\" at Hospital Mattarazzo square feet complex in São Paulo, June - September 2014-MoMA Exhibition, Lygia Clark: the Abandonment of Art, 19••••88, February 2014: I served as interpreter to Brazilian Scholars assisting with the exhibition project-MoMA, Global Research Group C-MAP, March 2014: served as full-time interpreter to Brazilian Scholars participating in the seminar.
