ABOUT EWELIKE ALAEKWE
I like working with numbers. I also like how mathematical equations are used to explain physical phenomena. It turned out that my love for numbers and equations made me a good fit for Engineering. So, I spent 18 years studying and practising Engineering - mainly in the Oil and Gas sector. I increasingly became passionate about the capital market and wanted to learn more about it. In my quest to know more, I learned about the CFA. I began my CFA journey by taking the CFA Investment Certificate course. The course introduced me to Finance, Capital Markets and the Global Economy. I have completed all three levels of the CFA Program and have become a CFA charter holder. Because life is too short not to pursue your passion, I decided to pivot and pursue a career in finance. Just as in engineering, numbers and equations are also very important, making it easy for me to plug and play. In my first finance role, I worked on implementing Basel Regulatory Capital Models for Derivatives. This role helped me to improve my understanding of derivatives, counterparty credit risk, credit valuation adjustment, risk modelling and regulatory capital requirements for financial institutions. I used Excel, Alteryx, Python, Access, and SQL tools for data extraction, exploration, modelling, analysis, and process automation. Then, I had a short stint working at a counterparty risk trading (xVA) desk, structuring and pricing derivative trades. Today, I\'m working as Business System Analysis Specialist within the Counterparty Credit Risk Technology team, focusing on Counterparty Credit Risk Capital and xVA. On the side, I love helping people manage their finances: earning, spending, saving, investing, and protecting.
