Evon Smith is the founding President of Sustainable Community Resources,(SCR). SCR is a real estate development firm located in Greensboro, NC, that focuses on rural and urban real estate development in low-resource communities. Evon is a former mortgage lender and credit union president, giving her the platform to do large scale economic development. She is a partner on the South Elm Street Redevelopment Project in Greensboro, NC; A multi-block mixed–use $100 million development. Her company is also the development team working with Union Baptist CDC in Winston-Salem, NC to redevelop an old grocery store site. Most recently, she directed the development efforts for the non-profit, Goler CDC, which consisted of the master planning and redevelopment of the historic “Goler Heights” neighborhood located in downtown Winston-Salem. The area was redeveloped as a mixed-use, multi-cultural neighborhood plan. The plan included rezoning, building approximately 200 new units of housing, SF in commercial and retail space, relocation, homeownership subsidy, mixed income, multifamily and single family, market rate and subsidized housing.
