About Evelyn Peiqi Ooi

I am strategically positioned in the intersection of technology, economics, politics, education and public policy. My experience working in a think tank, private companies and now in a government agency gives me a strong foundation to tap on existing knowledge that informs policies. This is done through both writing and presenting my points of view. I enjoy work that can shed insight and challenge existing presumptions, such as the Goods and Services Tax paper, which informed readers that the tax burden is not equally distributed among ethnic groups in Malaysia and the civic education paper that explored the notion that political parties and the citizenship laws prior to Malaysia and Singapore\'s independence play a role in national identity. My love for writing extends beyond academic articles. I have recently dabbled with creative non-fiction and enjoy it tremendously. It allows me to explore into the unknown. For my next project, I would like to work on a book that touches on family and personal relationships growing up in Malaysia.
