Synthesis of single flake 2D transition metal carbides (MXenes) via wet-chemical etching with hydrofluoric and hydrochloric acid and ion salt intercalation, followed by mechanical or manual delamination in batches up to 20 grams for personal and international collaborative research projects.Scanning and processing of x-ray computer tomographic images at micro scale for evaluation of MXene-polymer composites for Navy STTR Phase II proposal.Measure and analyze x-ray diffraction patterns of film and powdered samples to evaluate precursor material and complete etching of MAX phase aluminum layer.Parametric wet-etching synthesis for ion salt intercalation of novel MXenes for gamma ray shielding. Mentored fellow undergraduate students in standard and specialized wet synthesis methods.Measurement of thermal absorbance of MXene powders and film composites under Xenon lamp for membrane screening to develop an off-grid photothermal membrane desalination device.
