Our founders and owners, Mike and Mark, wanted a sophisticated spirit. They began a four-year-long journey of developing a new brand of spirits, Vodka, Rye Whiskey and Botanical Gin. After four years of planning and perfecting our distilling process, Widow’s Peak Distilling Company came to fruition. After a long day on the slopes and wrangling children on the mountainside, two brothers, Mark and Michael Ilg poured a drink and devised a new brand of spirits. From that day forward, the brothers began the journey of bringing their vision to market. Mark and Michael Ilg, sons of Joyce and Ken Ilg, and the bookends of five siblings are originally from the King of Prussia area. Mark, the eldest, a control systems engineer, and adjunct professor of engineering has his B.S. in electrical engineering and his MS and PHD in mechanical engineering, all from Drexel University. Mark is expectedly and excruciatingly precise and obsessed with the perfection of processes, he leads product development. Calculated and methodical, Mark identifies more with the book part of the euphemism. Michael, the youngest, is a laid-back, charismatic, and ambitious local entrepreneur and developer, who manages the business side of things. Michael, a West Virginia alum with his BA in management and advertising runs his own insurance agencies and property management company alongside of Widow’s Peak. Mark had home-brewed beer in his basement for around 15 years. When Mike saw a need in Ambler for a before and after dinner cocktail spot, or really any time of day, Mike asked Mark if he could distill vodka. After reading up on it for a couple weeks Mark made it happen.
