I was chosen as one of 12 interns from hundreds of applicants for a summer internship at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Osteoporosis is a disease that affects 60 million Americans annually. My research, performed under the mentorship of Dr. Katherine Van Schaik, is centered around correlating medical imaging findings of osteoporosis and bone health with epigenetic modifications of genes implicated in osteoporosis to assess the relationship between skeletal health, longevity, and patterns of aging. Additionally, I round with a hospital-based internal medicine team twice a week.
