ABOUT EVAN D.

Evan is a PhD student at the University of Toronto\'s Institute of Biomedical Engineering and Junior Fellow at Massey College. During his final two years of undergraduate study, he developed a passion for tissue engineering and regenerative medical research. Over the course of the past five years, he has collaborated with global leaders in the field to develop reconstructive tissue engineered therapies. Working with a team in London, England, he developed and optimized adipose and dermal substitute biomaterials composed of various matrix proteins for the treatment of mastectomy and burn patients, respectively. During the first half of 2020, Evan collaborated with the Ivan Martin Research Group in Switzerland on the development of novel cartilage tissue engineered products. He is also interested in emerging technologies, and has consulted for Access Corporate Finance in London, England, advising them on the implementation of FinTech and blockchain applications in the energy sector. To date, his research has been published in the journals Tissue Engineering Part B, Bioengineering and Cells. His research has also received international recognition; most recently, he received an NSERC CGS-M award for his graduate research, and an award from the American Physiological Society for his undergraduate honours thesis. Recently, he began pursuing graduate studies at the University of Toronto\'s Institute of Biomedical Engineering. He is currently working on generating reparative notocordal cells via CRISPR activation, with the goal of developing cellular and gene therapies for the treatment of degenerative disc disease. Evan is currently a Venture Innovation Fellow at Lumira Ventures, a venture capital firm focused on partnerships with exceptional entrepreneurs to build life science companies that transform the lives of patients worldwide.
