ABOUT EVAN J. PETERSON
I seek opportunities to write stylish public-facing content, especially in humor, gaming, imaginative/speculative fiction, and LGBTQ narratives. I\'m a game writer, narrative designer and director, author, copywriter, and critic. I’m interested in full and part time, original creative content, ghostwriting, and work for hire. I wear many hats, and they all look great on me. After over a decade in academia, I now freelance, writing game narratives and other assorted projects and products. Currently, I hold a part-time WFH position as the first Development and Outreach Coordinator for Clarion West, a nonprofit dedicated to providing education and opportunities for diverse and emerging writers in speculative fiction. It was my honor to graduate from their flagship residential workshop in 2015. The Lambda Literary Awards selected GHOSTS IN GASLIGHT, MONSTERS IN STEAM: GAY CITY 5, on which I served as volume editor, as a finalist for Best Anthology in 2014. My writing has also been published by Boing Boing, Atlas Obscura, The Stranger, The Rumpus, Weird Tales, and Best Gay Stories 2015. After forming a relationship with Hourglass Escapes, I\'ve served as Narrative Director for the MYSTERY AT INNSMOUTH escape room, using the licensed IP of the Arkham Horror franchise from Asmodee and Fantasy Flight Games. The success of this led to a prequel video game, THE ROAD TO INNSMOUTH, out January 2023. I also served as sensitivity reader for racial and LGBTQ issues on the games, helping to pull Lovecraft\'s controversial mythos into current social standards of representation. My best-known textual works to date are the long-form interactive fiction rpg DRAG STAR! from Choice of Games and “The Case for PrEP.\" published in The Stranger and Best Gay Stories 2015 and linked below. That article led to my first full-length nonfiction book, THE PrEP DIARIES: A SAFE(R) SEX MEMOIR; the rights to the manuscript have since reverted back to me, and I\'d love to find a publisher to get this back into print. My next novel, BETTER LIVING THROUGH ALCHEMY, is due out from Broken Eye Books in 2023. In the past, I served as founding Creative Editor and then Editor-in-Chief of Minor Arcana Press, recipient of a 2013 smART Ventures grant from the City of Seattle Office of Arts and Culture. My duties as EiC included branding, selecting manuscripts and taking them from final draft through the publishing process, and overseeing fundraising. In addition, I founded the feminist horror film series SHRIEK in Seattle, which is now concluded.
