About Eva L.

I am a junior at Smith College double majoring in anthropology and biology on a pre-medical track. I am particularly interested in the fields of emergency and internal medicine and am open to any potential shadowing opportunities. Through my special studies research in Enteropathogenic E. Coli virulence gene expression, I\'ve developed microbiology and genetics wet lab skills. As a Clinical Assistant and Extern at Atkinson Family Practice, I\'ve furthered my experience in patient care interactions and improved my clinical techniques in vital signs, point of care testing, and medical record documentation. In my role as a volunteer in the CDH Emergency Department, I\'ve learned how to provide meaningful non-clinical support to patients and visitors in need. I\'m excited to continue to deepen my understanding of both clinical and non-clinical patient care practices and workflows.

   Roomed patients, took vitals, and gathered relevant history for physicals, follow-ups, and sick visits. Accurately gathered and processed point of care labs, including rapid viral and bacterial swabs, blood glucose, A1C, and urine dipsticks. Performed EKGs, peak flow tests, and preventative hearing and vision screenings. Prepared PCR and culture labs for send out testing. Assisted providers in procedures using proper sterile technique.
