ABOUT EVA HERSHAW

I am data and land monitoring specialist and forever journalist, born in Idaho, trained on Latin America and currently living in Rome.At the International Land Coalition (ILC) hosted by IFAD, I lead our work on people\'s data for accountability and advocacy. The engine of this work is LANDex, a monitoring tool built in partnership with ILC\'s members. We use our data to monitor the SDGs and, increasingly, to monitor the role of land across the Rio Conventions. ILC is a proud member and contributor to the Collaborative on Citizen Data, hoping to make rural realities, individuals and communities more visible in data. The intersection between science, data and storytelling is my sweet spot: before my work with ILC, I was a Fulbright researcher in Brazil, looking at the role of financial actors and US farmers in agribusiness. Before Brazil, I was covering the spread of antibiotic-resistant bacteria on cattle yards in Texas. Over the past 10 years, I have worked as a science reporter, researcher and consultant in six countries. I have two master\'s degrees in journalism and Latin American studies and am fluent in English, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese; proficient in Tableau and Stata. Forever digging for stories, patterns and references.
