Cambridgeshire, GB

My current role focuses on the following tasks:• Leading (planning, designing, and executing) genome-wide and small-scale genetic screenings to identify the optimal combination of transcription factors encoding genes, facilitating the reprogramming of human iPSCs into our targeted cell type, using random integration, targeted integration, and gene editing (e.g, CRISPR-based systems). • Engineering cell lines using CRISPR-based systems• Implementing automation tools for developing and optimising the screening process and platform within the R&D department, ex, UP-SIGHT single cell dispenser• Generating and establishing wet-lab protocols for downstream genetic screens.• Experienced in using the following automated liquid handling systems, ex, BioTek plate washers, Hamilton Microlab Star.• Skilled in live-cell imaging and analysis using the Sartorius Incucyte system and Solentim Cell Metric X.• Serving as the employee representative for the Functional Genomics team for 2 years, enhancing my skills in problem-solving, organisational and time management, analytical thinking, leadership, and conflict management.Achievements- Independently executing the lab work for five high-priority projects (three genome-wide screenings, two immunology and neuroscience-focused screenings )- Generating Knock-in cell lines in collaboration with the cell engineering team- Participating in the project planning and experimental design of these projects- Troubleshooting bottlenecks encountered throughout the project timeline, particularly during experimental execution.

ABOUT ETHAR ABUHASHISH

A pharmacist and a molecular biologist with five years of experience in life sciences (+3 years of experience in functional genomics and genetic engineering). My expertise emphasises utilising several gene-editing tools (CRISPR/Cas9, CRISPR-associated transposons, Transposons) on multiple cell lines, iPSC and animal models (zebrafish, mice) to investigate a range of diseases, such as Diabetes and neurodegenerative disorders, as well as investigating cellular regulatory networks.I graduated from Uppsala University, Sweden, with a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Medical Sciences (Biomedicine), with a minor in Neuroscience (2021). Before that, I earned a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Pharmacy in 2017.Driven by a deep passion for Molecular Biology, particularly genetic editing and functional genomics in the field of neurodegenerative diseases, I am committed to excellence in my current role and dedicated to advancing the field.
