About Ethan Morris
As a Rhodes College alum with a major in English, I spent the duration of my college experience developing my skills in writing and research. These skills have served me both personally and professionally, both as a critical thinker and as a teacher at Kirby High School. In college, I was a Student Senator and served as the chair of the Student Services committee during my sophomore and junior year, focusing on Rhodes College’s residence life and mental health support services. I was a member of two honors societies, and served as the secretary for the Sigma Tau Delta English Honors Society. I wrote for the reborn campus publication The Rat’s Ass under a variety of pseudonyms, penning pieces about my experience as a senior, college as a site of constant change, and thoughts on requirements for official club designations and administrative turnover. I was one of three hosts of a radio show called Verbalizin’ amd Vibin’ [sic], which featured both music and collaborative improvisational storytelling. My senior thesis was awarded the Jane Donaldson Kepple Senior English Essay Prize, and I later adapted it to a presentation which was delivered at the Southern Plains Arts, Humanities, and Languages Conference at Oklahoma State University in 2024. I have served different roles in my two years at Kirby High School. In my first year, I delivered lessons built from the Tennessee English I curriculum to prepare students for the TCAP test in the Spring, while developing relationships with students that have carried over into my second year. During my second year, in a new role as the Creative Writing teacher and RTI Interventionist, I have created my own lessons, blending the TN creative writing standards with my experience with college-level writing workshops. The curriculum I built for creative writing places a focus on exploratory individual learning and one-on-one connections built through \"office-hour\" style conferences, as well as facilitates student relationships through workshop letter writing and peer editing.
