ABOUT HEATHER ETCHEVERS

I direct a small research group studying the mechanisms of rare birth defects affecting the head, skin, heart and blood vessels. Supported by private foundations and numerous patient advocacy groups, I co-lead the Mechanisms of Paracrine and Endocrine Disorders team, part of the Marseille Medical Genetics unit of the French National Institute for Health and Medical Research (INSERM) at Aix-Marseille University. My group\'s close ties to clinicians around the world and our expertise in developmental biology inform scientists as well as patients and their families.Deputy director of a CNRS \"Groupement de recherche\"(GDR) on the neural crest from 20••••23, I was elected to INSERM\'s national specialized scientific commission 1 (Molecular, cellular and structural biology) for peer evaluations, 20••••27.Specialties: Neurocristopathies - a wide range of diseases due to problems in the development, proliferation, death or differentiation of embryonic neural crest cells in humans. Human genetics. Mosaic malformations.
