About Eric Sutphin

I\'m an artist, arts advocate, writer and educator based in New Hampshire. I received my BFA from Rutgers University: Mason Gross School of the Arts in 2007 and an MFA in Art Criticism and Writing from The School of Visual Arts in 2014. I began working as a freelance art critic in 2010, and have been a visiting critic at University of Delaware, Rutgers University, The School of Visual Arts, Seton Hill University and Delaware College of Art and Design. Throughout my writing and curatorial projects, I have foregrounded the contributions of BIPOC, LQBTQI+, and women artists. My writing has been published in Art in America, Artforum, frieze, The Brooklyn Rail, Art New England and The Valley News. After living in New York City for 15 years, I relocated to central New Hampshire in 2020 to pursue grassroots creative community building. In 2022, I joined River Valley Community College as Project Coordinator and founded the Creative Arts Committee. In October 2023, I launched RVCC Projects, a gallery and project space on the college’s Claremont campus. The gallery hosts three exhibitions per year, and highlights the local and regional creative community through exhibitions and public programs.
