About Esmaeil Seraj

Currently, I am a Robotics AI Tech Lead at General Motors, where I am helping build the next generation of robot learning systems for dexterous and compliant manipulation in manufacturing. My work focuses on developing a modern robotics AI stack that integrates perception, reasoning, and control—leveraging advances in multimodal learning, including vision-language models (VLMs) and vision-language-action (VLA) policies—to enable intelligent automation in complex industrial environments.I build and ship CV/ML systems that enable dexterous, compliant, contact-rich manipulation in dense, cluttered environments. At Amazon Robotics (the Vulcan program), my work spanned robust and multimodal perception, fusion, 3D reconstruction, affordance generation, planning and optimization for contact-rich manipulation, and learned policies (RL, LfD) from production data tightly integrated with optimization, planning, and reactive control.Previously at Ford, I worked on advancing vehicle perception and human–vehicle interaction. My PhD focused on embodied team intelligence for multi-robot systems—data-driven and model-based methods for communication, coordination, and collaboration.Across my work, I’m motivated by rigorous research and engineering that translates state-of-the-art machine learning into reliable robotics systems deployed at scale in the physical world.
