ABOUT ESHAN ARORA

Eshan Arora is a medical student at Dalhousie University with a strong record of leadership in student governance, health equity, and community-engaged education. He is widely recognized for his sustained contributions to advancing equitable pathways into medicine, improving student learning environments, and strengthening collaboration across institutional and community settings.Eshan has held numerous leadership roles at the institutional, regional, and national levels. He serves as President of his medical school class and has represented students in senior governance roles at Dalhousie University, including service on the Board of Governors and Senate, where he has contributed to policy development and equity-focused decision-making on numerous task forces, committees, and working groups.Eshan is the Society Founder of the Dalhousie Science Scholars & Leaders Program (DSSLP), a nationally recognized, first-of-its-kind initiative addressing systemic barriers faced by underrepresented students in STEMM. Through this work, Eshan developed and taught an innovative first-year course and led a formal program evaluation demonstrating improvements in student academic belonging, self-efficacy, and knowledge of the hidden curriculum. His research has been presented nationally and has informed broader conversations on equity-oriented educational models. Eshan’s leadership in this space was recognized by the Atlantic Association of College and University Student Services (AACUSS) Student Leadership Award, becoming the first medical student ever to receive this honour.In addition to his work in education and governance, Eshan has played a leading role in initiatives supporting Indigenous and African Nova Scotian learners, and is deeply committed to advocacy for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Eshan has advanced disability-informed pedagogical initiatives and serves as a Board Director of Prescott Group, a community organization supporting adults with IDD. He has also been actively involved in meningitis B awareness and prevention initiatives through BforKai, a public health advocacy organization focused on vaccine awareness.Eshan is a frequently requested speaker at institutional and regional conferences and panels, where he speaks on student leadership, equity, access, and inclusive learning environments. Eshan\'s contributions have been recognized through multiple honours, including Dalhousie University’s Governors’ Award and the President’s Award for the Advancement of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Accessibility.
