I am a manufacturing and automation engineer with over 20 years of experience in manufacturing equipment development and systems integration for the automotive and consumer electronics industries.I have worked on both sides of equipment development and deployment- as a vendor, architecting manufacturing systems and executing projects. Leading engineering teams, creating cost-effective machine designs, and leading equipment installation and commissioning- and as a customer, translating product needs into manufacturing systems, managing vendors, and taking equipment to required performance.To me, great manufacturing systems rely on three equally important pillars: Product design for manufacturing, great process development by manufacturing engineering, and equipment platforms designed specifically for each product.My approach to automation: automation is tool. If one must automate, make it simple and robust. If it doesn’t look simple, you’re not done designing. Equipment platforms should fit the product, not the other way around. If you’re designing a new platform, make sure it is modular and fast.
