About Evan Schroder
As a pre-med student at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, I am pursuing a double major in biochemistry and microbiology, with a passion for molecular and cellular biology. I have been involved in undergraduate research in Dr. Edward Harris\' lab for over three years, investigating the stabilin-2 receptor and its associated ligands. Through my projects, I have gained skills in protein purification, GFP labeling, and cell culture, and have earned the UCARE grant and the Summer Undergraduate Research Program. I have also co-authored two publications in bioRxiv and International Journal of Molecular Sciences, contributing to the fields of HIV-1 therapeutic associated pathology and cardiac arrhythmia. In addition to my academic and research endeavors, I have gained valuable clinical experience as an operating room assistant at OrthoNebraska since May 2022. I facilitate the movement and monitoring of patients before and during surgery, and assist in the positioning and sterile scrub of the marked limb for the respective case. I also act as a second scrub in total knee, hip, and shoulder replacements, demonstrating sterile technique and proficiency in the setup of various surgical tools and devices. Furthermore, I have recently taken on the role of a teaching assistant for Biochemistry II: Metabolism and Biological Information at UNL, where I hold office hours, lead a recitation, and facilitate open communication with students and faculty. My goal is to apply to medical school and pursue a career as a physician-scientist, combining my interests in research and patient care. I believe that my education, research, and clinical skills have prepared me well for this path, and I am eager to learn more and contribute to the advancement of medicine.
