About Elaine Sanico
As a recent Mechanical Engineering graduate from the University of Maryland, I am passionate about leveraging engineering principles to drive innovation in the medical device industry. Graduating in December 2024, I’ve gained hands-on experience through internships and co-ops with Edwards Lifesciences and Arnold Automation, where I’ve developed expertise in Design for Manufacturing (DFM), rapid prototyping, test method development, and medical device testing.During my internship at Edwards Lifesciences, I led efforts to redesign components for a TAVR accessory handle, reducing cost and assembly time. I also developed a rapid prototyping method that cut prototyping production time by 70%. My role as an R&D Co-Op further honed my skills in designing anatomical models to test mitral repair devices and conducting detailed analysis to validate medical therapies.In addition to my technical experience, I’ve demonstrated leadership as a Technical Supervisor at Terrapin Works, managing prototyping labs, training technicians, and ensuring customer satisfaction. I’m also the founder of Handmade for Aid, a small business I created to combine my passion for design with a commitment to charitable giving.I am eager to contribute to the medical device industry, focusing on improving patient outcomes through engineering innovation and collaborative problem-solving.
