ABOUT ERROL OSMAN

After working in the TV industry for over 20 years and mentoring over the last 5 years, I have decided to put more of my time and energy in the future of the industry rather than the present. I have felt for many years that the tv industry isn\'t a fair playing field and those from an underprivileged or under represented group do not get the same opportunities. I felt by mentoring young people that I would be able to help those same groups break into tv and find a pathway for themselves. Instead I found that the gap between the privileged and underprivileged has grown wider from when I began my career. Mentoring wasn\'t enough and so the Crew Room Academy was born. Crew Room Academy is a training and mentorship initiative for people that have been historically excluded and that haven\'t traditionally pursued careers in television. We believe that widening the recruitment pool starts in the classroom, and our programme of free online courses and mentorship schemes create opportunities for underrepresented demographics. Our goal is to unearth tomorrow\'s rising industry stars and increase diversity for behind the scenes talent. Previously a freelance consultant in the media and the broadcast industry where I assisted with the design and build of both content and broadcast studios. I assist my clients with the initial set up of productions for kit, crews and schedules. I also assist with the transition from traditional production workflows into a cloud based production system. Up until the summer of 2018 I was a Studio Manager at The London Studios, ITV’s six studio, central London facility serving both ITV productions and independents making programmes for all the UK broadcasters. In my role, I was responsible for delivering studio production budgets, maintaining excellent client relations and managing the daily operations, staff and freelance workforce. I began my broadcasting career as a Technical Runner in Post Production at The London Studios in 2003. I worked in Post for the next 7 years as an Edit Assistant and rising through the ranks and then into VTR as a Coordinator during the HD upgrades. I went on to manage a range of productions from ITV Studios live Daytime and Sport output to Entertainment Specials including Adele at the BBC (Shot at TLS), Have I Got News For You, Saturday Night Takeaway and many more. In 2017 I was asked to be a Technical Manager for ITVs Saturday Night Takeaway in Florida in April 2018, and due to my broad knowledge of both Post Production and Studios I was able to take on this role.
