ABOUT ERNEST LIM
As scientific director at Ufonia, I coordinate clinical, regulatory and safety aspects of our autonomous clinical conversational assistant, Dora. I lead a team of product and machine learning engineers to build and evaluate our AI conversational agents. I\'m also a practicing ophthalmologist on secondment from full time ophthalmology surgical training in the North London Deanery. In parallel to my work as medical director, i\'m pursuing a PhD in Computer Science at the University of York towards building an assurance case for the implementation of autonomous clinical conversational agents in healthcare. My interest is in applying methodologies in safety engineering of high-integrity systems (autonomous cars, maritime, defense, nuclear etc) into novel generative AI technologies that will come to power the future of healthcare conversations. I love working at the intersection of technology, healthcare, and science, and run the company’s monthly journal club. I\'m an alumnus of the Value-Based Healthcare Intensive Seminar at the Harvard Business School, and an NHS Clinical Entrepreneur. I am a module lead on the UCL Bioscience Entrepreneurship MSc teaching how to bring digital health products to market, and a RnD grant assessor for Innovate UK. In my spare time, i\'m probably out on the tennis court, or writing about start-up life, learning to code, or productivity on my personal blog.
