Where My Story Begins. A story of heritage. The legacy of my great- grandfather Bejo Beqar Haskaj.Every journey has a starting point. Mine begins in Albania.I grew up hearing stories about my great-grandfather, Bejo Beqar Haskaj, a respected community leader from the region of Mallakastra. In a time of political change and uncertainty, he became known as someone people trusted, a man who helped others, protected those in need, and stood firmly by his values. His life was rooted in education, culture, resilience, leadership, hospitality, and commitment to helping others — values that have been rooted in family tradition.Two stories that have always stayed with me are how, despite the difficulties of the time and the restrictions placed on Albanian education, he courageously helped open the first Albanian-language school in his region. At a time when opening such schools carried real risk, he chose to move forward anyway, believing strongly in the importance of education, culture, and identity. During the Second World War, he supported the resistance movement and even helped save the life of a wounded fighter by sheltering him in his own home where he recovered and then guiding him to safety. His actions left a lasting mark on the community.In Albania, hospitality is not simply a gesture, it is part of the culture rooted deeply in our identity. Guests are welcomed with warmth, generosity, and care. It is a way of life that has been passed down through generations.Today, those same principles guide the way I design travel experiences through Design Your Holidays by Eriola. I believe travel should be more than visiting cultural destinations; it should be about meaningful moments, trusted connections, and feeling looked after every step of the journey.When I create a bespoke itinerary for a client, I approach it with the same spirit of care and responsibility that shaped my heritage, making sure every detail is thoughtful, every experience authentic, and every journey unforgettable.Because at the heart of travel is something very simple: people taking care of people.And that is a value that has been part of my story long before I ever designed my first journey.
