About Erin Proctor Herb
I learned the \"Art of Process\" at a young age. On the weekends, my dad, an architect, drove us around the city. I thought our goal was to explore architecture, materiality, and form, but he taught me functional problem solving through design. Cleverly it was disguised as a game of asking questions, brainstorming, and exploring solutions. It also taught me to be open, agile, and embrace evidence-based design. My love of research and knowledge sharing led me to teach architecture and design at the University of Tennessee. It was fascinating to observe a class of (20) students creating twenty unique solutions to the same design challenge. My respect and appreciation for Design Thinking, User-Centered Design, and User Experience Design continued to grow. As a commercial interior designer, I worked for Gensler, HOK, and SOM. My ability to alternate from the macro to the micro-level was advantageous during all design stages. I especially enjoyed interviewing clients and listening to their needs. By researching and applying empathy, I tailored an actionable solution that supported their goals. Ultimately, the sum of my work experience gained through commercial interior design, education, and sales, provides a solid foundation and continues to inform my approach to User Experience Design.
