WHO WE ARESafe & Sound has been a pillar of child abuse prevention and family support in the SF Bay Area community for more than 50 years. We were established in 1973 as The San Francisco Child Abuse Council by Dr. Moses Grossman, Chief of Pediatrics at UCSF / San Francisco General Hospital.WHAT WE DOWe work at the regional, state and national levels to ensure laws, funding and clinicians are supporting children and providing access to resources – this work has led to advancements in mandated reporter trainings, increased funding to Family Resource Centers across the state, and ensuring those with lived experiences are partners in developing policies for families.WHY IT MATTERSOur programs have achieved remarkable results, reaching hundreds of thousands of individuals, creating systems-change, and contributing to a 66% reduction in the rate of child abuse and a 55% reduction in entries into foster care in San Francisco. Safe & Sound is part of a national movement to co-create a family and child well-being system, in partnership with communities, to keep children and families safely together. A UNIQUE MOMENT FOR CHANGEWe have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to dramatically decrease the incidence of child abuse, neglect, and trauma. A combination of federal policy change, and California’s significant shift toward child welfare reform, offers an unprecedented opportunity for how we support children and families to safely staying together.
