About Erin Payne
As a premedical student majoring in Neuroscience and Psychology with a minor in Chemistry at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, I am deeply passionate about the neural and behavioral mechanisms underlying human development—particularly in the context of traumatic brain injury (TBI) and chronic pain.I have contributed to research in the UNC Developmental Social Neuroscience Lab, where I supported participant recruitment, data cleaning, and fMRI imaging for studies examining social, emotional, and cognitive development in relation to social media interactions. Additionally, I served as a home health care assistant at the UNC TEACCH Autism Program, where I provided individualized support, patient advocacy, and health education to individuals with autism and their families.I hold HIPAA and healthcare provider certifications, with training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and a strong foundation in patient-centered care. My own lived experience with post-concussion syndrome and chronic pain has fueled my dedication to neuroscience research and advocacy. As a long-time intern and mentor with the Concussion Legacy Foundation, I have worked to support individuals navigating similar challenges and to promote education and awareness around brain injuries.I am committed to advancing our understanding of the brain through research, clinical experience, and advocacy, with the ultimate goal of improving treatment outcomes for individuals affected by neurological and pain disorders.
