ABOUT ERIN PALMER
Erin\'s career in wine began shortly after the collapse of the tech industry in 2001 left her contemplating new professional endeavors. With no business plan, no professional experience in the wine industry, and only (for build out and inventory!) she opened her first shop in the back of a strip mall in the suburbs of Portland, Oregon. Her goal was to make wine welcoming and accessible to folks who often felt left out or snubbed by the wine elite. She began teaching intro to wine classes in 2003, which grew her business and parlayed her into a contract with Portland Community College where she has been a community education professor for more than 20 years. Her wine classes fill in under 10 minutes each term through PCC: spaces snapped up by 7:10am on registration day, creating a quarterly social media frenzy that is endearing and comical. In 2012 she moved her shop to a larger space with a classroom and commercial kitchen. Her shop grew to one of the longest running wine shops in Oregon, was one of the first owned and operated by a woman, and survived two recessions and a global pandemic. She has taught more than wine classes for her PCC students, as well as for private clients. In 2022 her son suffered a traumatic brain injury while serving in the US Space Force. Erin sold her business so she could focus on his complete recovery. Upon selling the shop, she changed her career to promoting only the education and marketing side of the Oregon wine industry. She now runs a successful firm that allows her to work remotely as well as in person. She loves the evolving science of wine and the ever emerging understanding of the history of wine and archaeologists continue to unearth history. An introvert at heart, she\'s excited to learn more about the PacNW wine industry from winery owners, winemakers, and everyone who loves wine.
