   Developed Enigma’s sanction screening data pipeline. The pipeline extracted identifying information for sanctioned persons and organizations from various US sanctions lists. These details were used to match against bank transactions and accounts in order to prevent financial crimes- Implemented unit tests and data freshness checks. Ingesting the most up to date sanction data was essential for banks to stay in compliance with ever-changing US sanctions. Automated freshness checks were executed daily via an AWS Lambda function and triggered alarms if the data had not been refreshed within the desired window- Contributed to the platform used by customers to inspect sanctioned entities, validate flagged transactions, and adjust their sanction risk tolerance. Developed the platform APIs in Flask and UI in React- Designed and implemented a service to store sanction lists from data providers in S3. This historical record of data allowed for more visibility for customers, more flexibility in testing, and opened the door for future projects visualizing sanction trends over time. Infrastructure overhead was reduced by developing a single AWS Lambda function with different Event Rules to trigger each ingested list- Extracted, transformed, analyzed, and generated sample visualizations on 30 years of OFAC sanctions data, which helped inform a Washington Post article on the history of sanctions in the US.
