ABOUT ERIKA RANKIN

We don\'t inherit the earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children\"- David BrowerGrowing up in Ireland, I was always fascinated with the outdoors and natural environment. Fast forward many years (more than I\'d like to admit), I am now Head of Net Zero in the Sustainability practice at Ricardo. I am also a Chartered Energy Manager and ESOS Lead Assessor with over 16 years’ experience in delivering change. As Associate Director at Ricardo, I work with a wide range of clients and organisations supporting them on their sustainability journey, and particularly in their transition to net zero carbon. I have a passion for seeking and developing new and innovative solutions to allow our communities live and work in a more sustainable way.My passion and drive to create a better world has enabled me to progress through a variety of roles over the years, to my current position with Ricardo. In this role I play a part in shaping sustainability and net zero emission services for our customers, supported by an organisation who shares my personal vision. My roles over the years have provided me with a broad range of skills and experiences. Some notable items include:• Leading on development of solutions to eliminate and reduce carbon emissions• Supporting organisations in developing credible Climate Transition Plans• Successful delivery of complex projects and programmes• Experience across a broad range of sectors• Working with diverse and multifaceted teams and stakeholders• Managing diverse teams and mentoring junior staff members• Development of energy policy and strategy• Involvement in government carbon compliance schemes (ESOS/CRC/EU ETS/CCAs), both on behalf of government and for clients• Former auditor for the Feed-in Tariff (FIT) and Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI)• Chartered Energy Manager and Member of the Energy Institute (MEI), as well as an ESOS Lead Assessor• Postgraduate qualifications in Environmental Management and Renewable EnergyOn a personal level, I have been known to be overly energetic and have many hobbies that I enjoy. One of my biggest passions is for dance, and I’m an avid salsa dancer and a member of the team for our local classes. I’m also a qualified yoga teacher, although don’t currently teach a class. Having a great adventure is my idea of a good break – whether that’s a jaunt over the fells in the Lake District or exploring a new country. There just better be a nice glass of wine at the end of it!
