About Erika Matrone
In January of 2020, I graduated from St. John\'s University with a double major in Public Relations and Hospitality Management. While these fields may differ greatly, they are alike in one key way: both rely on building exceptional interpersonal relationships through effective communication.I began building these skills on campus, where I was actively involved in creating, promoting, and facilitating events in my organizations. Through my executive board club positions, I was able to build relationships with other students creating engaging events and marketing them strategically.During what would have been my fifth semester, I was given the opportunity to work for The Walt Disney Company at their Orlando resort as a merchandising hostess. It was here that I learned to love guest service, as I got to meet people from around the world every day and help them find what they needed. This experience ended up being so valuable to me that I decided to return a year later, this time as a resort concierge. Here, my responsibility to uphold the highest standard of guest service was even greater, as I was now making the first impression on thousands of vacationing families.Upon return to New York, I landed a position as a Marketing Intern for Kids In The Game, and began a contract position as a Public Relations Assistant for Whitehead Chiropractic. In these roles, I heavily focused on writing and learned the importance of being detail-oriented and editing for both content and clarity. Overall, this combination of experiences has helped me develop well-rounded communication skills that I apply to all parts of both my professional and personal life.I graduated in January 2020 with a dual degree in Public Relations and Hospitality Management, right before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Between travel restrictions and hiring freezes, I was facing a tough job market. However, not one to give up on a challenge, I continued my freelance work and took on many various temp roles, eventually landing on doing data entry for the finance team at ButterflyMX. I quickly picked up many finance-related skills and learned that I loved the type of work I saw the more senior team members doing. This 6-month contract turned into a full-time role in Accounts Receivable and set the path for my career going forward.
Experience
Accounts Receivable Specialist Billing Lead
Mar 2024 — Present
At Rentable, I am part of a small but robust Accounts Receivable team in a rapidly growing startup in the Property Technology SaaS industry. My initial role in at Rentable was supporting the general AR and collections functions. I focused on creating and maintaining professional relationships with customers through billing and collections efforts. Combining customer service skills with collections skills in order to develop relationships with clients while tactfully reaching out about past due balances allowed me to meet and exceed monthly collections goals.I eventually had the opportunity to begin leading the billing function. I manage a small team and make sure invoices are going out timely and accurately. I handle all adjustment requests and questions from customers related to billing. Additionally, I run monthly revenue reconcillations to ensure accuracy across systems.
