About Erika Delemarre
In 2012, I decided it was time for a sea-change. I sold off most of my possessions, left my home and successful marketing career behind and began to travel, volunteer, and work in remote locations around the world. I have worked on marine conservation, environmental education, and youth development initiatives in countries such as Vietnam, Cambodia, Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia, Palau, Cuba, and Iceland. While working on and under the ocean, I have helped people of all ages discover and explore their unique connection with the ocean. Building stewardship through education, I believe that together we can work to empower individuals and communities to change their practices to reduce and reverse the damage that has been done to our global ocean. I hold a Master\'s in Marine Biodiversity and Conservation from Scripps Institution of Oceanography at University of California San Diego and dual Bachelors of Science in Public Relations and Advertising from Northern Arizona University. When I\'m not traveling, I call Monterey, California home.
Experience
Naturalist Guide
Jun 2019 — Present · Monterey, CA, US
As a naturalist, I develop and update accurate and current interpretive tours of Monterey Bay coastal and marine life including scientific information about species as well as marine conservation messaging. My programs are delivered aboard the company\'s three boats for three- and four-hour trips on Monterey Bay. I utilize the ships\' PA systems to deliver engaging and relevant commentary for small and large groups of international visitors from 20 to 150 people. Additionally, I provided in-person interpretation to guests in small group settings and one-on-one using props and demonstrations. Outside of guiding work, I assist with the training of new interpretive staff and interns, and support the crew with guest care, safety training, and boat maintenance.
