ABOUT ERIKA SANGER
Sanger is an innovative professional who can lead a project from vision to funding, from implementation to evaluation, and from community engagement to fiscal accountability. A highly effective administrator, inspiring educator, and engaging speaker, her expertise in the interpretation of material culture is complemented by a commitment to build public engagement in the diversity of our shared histories and cultural expressions. Recent Accomplishments: • January 2024: President, Coalition of State Museum Associations • November 2023: Launched “A New Agora for New York: Museums as Spaces for Democracy,” a humanities discussion series funded by the NEH and the William G. Pomeroy Foundation that will use the Smithsonian Institution’s Museum on Main Street Exhibition Voices and Votes: Democracy in America as a launching point to support the work of twelve museums and their communities to explore, reflect on, and tell the story of their role in the evolution of American Democracy and envision the future of our nation. This project is support by grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities, Market NY, and the William G. Pomeroy Foundation. • In 2022, led organization through the development of a new strategic plan, revised by-laws and personnel policy, and changed board terms to align with fiscal year. • Recipient of the 2022 Advocacy Leadership Award from the American Alliance of Museums • Developed and launched Capacity Building grant partnership program with NYSCA to distribute in grants to 100 museums. • Secured NEH CARES Act Funding for \"Museums Support Democracy\" Virtual Program Series in partnership with Museum Hue. • Speaker, American Alliance of Museums Museums Advocacy Day 2021 • Secured 2 and EIDL Loans to help sustain organizational finances through COVID-19 Pandemic • Awarded IMLS CARES Act grant for $498,407 to Build Capacity, Create Sustainability, and Grow Accessibility in 98 Museums for 203 museum professionals • Produced virtual programs in 2020 and 2021 that kept over Museum professionals from 48 states and eight nations connected with critical information and inspirational speakers. • Developed and Launched Pomeroy Fund for NYS History in partnership with The Pomeroy Foundation • Completed Legal Issues in Museum Administration Training ALI-CLE 2018, 2021
