About Erik Zugner

I have developed a passion for emergency management through experience, training, and education. The combined knowledge has led me to understand the critical roles in emergency management. I have over 18 years of experience in large event planning, disaster mitigation, response, recovery, and investigations. I strive to make a positive impact in the community that I serve, either it be post-Katrina, post-Harvey, or others, through moral integrity and a commitment to protect the lives of the community and our stakeholders. I am experienced in leading teams during incidents and events. Adept in the implementation of policies and instruct personnel in the understanding of the overall process. Through my training and experience I have developed a strong rapport with partnering agencies, educational institutions, and the community. I have a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, master’s Degree in Security Management, and a PhD in Public Policy and Administration with the emphasis in Emergency Management. My dissertation topic focuses on the information that the community and stakeholders seek from emergency management officials during a disaster through social media. Also, I have completed numerous FEMA courses to include the Professional Development Series, command and general staff courses, TEEX Infrastructure Protection Certification, TEEX Infrastructure Disaster Management Certification.
