About Erik Pierstorff
As a Program Director for the NSF SBIR/STTR program, I help and mentor technology-focused companies in the Biological Technologies and Pharmaceutical Technologies spaces. During this time, I have worked with over 380 awardee companies, managing a funding portfolio of more than $190Mn. In addition to SBIR, I have engaged in multiple initiatives towards translation of fundamental research from Universities towards commercialization through other NSF-based use-inspired and translational programs. If you have questions about official NSF matters, please contact me through my NSF email account, not via LinkedIn.Prior to NSF, I founded multiple biotech/pharma focused startups where I managed R&D, company operations and actively engaged in dilutive and non-dilutive fundraising. This included obtaining investment, negotiating licensing and Research and Development deals with large multinational companies, and receiving government grants (i.e. NIH and NSF SBIR awards). I have worked with multiple incubator facilities/organizers, University faculty, and investment groups. My scientific interests have spanned a diverse selection of disciplines, including 25+ years of work in interdisciplinary laboratory settings spanning molecular biology, biomedical engineering, materials science, gene therapy, siRNA/shRNA, nanotechnology, drug delivery, and ear biology and hearing disorders.Specialties: Entrepreneurship, Start-up Companies, SBIR/STTR Programs, Biotechnology, Seed Financing, Drug Delivery, Biomedical Engineering, Nanotechnology, Molecular Biology, Materials Science, Start-up Operations and Management.
