About Eric Sortland
I\'m a graduate student at the University of Minnesota pursuing an M.S. in Computer Science with a focus on Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence. My current research centers on Bayesian optimization, active sensing, and adaptive experimental design — with applications in medical devices, physiological signal modeling, and data-efficient decision-making.Previously, I was a Software Engineer at Target, where I helped design and implement scalable ML platform tooling using Ray.io and Vertex AI. I also interned at Boston Scientific in the Cardiac Diagnostics R&D group, where I developed transformer-based models for heart sound data and explored uncertainty-aware clinical inference using Bayesian neural networks.I completed my B.S. in Computer Science at the University of Minnesota, where I was part of the GroupLens research lab under the mentorship of Lana Yarosh.Outside of work, I enjoy hiking, travel, reading, and playing piano.Technologies I\'ve worked with include: PyTorch, BoTorch, Ray.io, Vertex AI, MLflow, DVC, PySpark, Kafka, Scikit-learn, Pandas, Numpy, PostgreSQL, and MongoDBPlease feel free to send me a message if you\'d like to connect.
