About Eric Leis
I am an Associate in the Business and Tort Litigation Group at Jones Day, where I represent clients in complex civil litigation matters in both federal and state courts. My practice spans all stages of litigation—from developing factual records through discovery to researching intricate legal issues and drafting persuasive briefs and motions. I am dedicated to delivering strategic, effective solutions to clients facing complex legal challenges.I began my legal career as a law clerk, first for the Honorable David Porter of the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, and later for the Honorable Nora Barry Fischer of the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania. These clerkships provided invaluable experience in legal research, writing, and case management, allowing me to gain a deep understanding of both trial and appellate procedures.I hold a Juris Doctor from Notre Dame Law School, a Master of Engineering Management from Old Dominion University, and a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Notre Dame. This academic background equips me with a distinctive blend of legal insight and technical experience.Prior to my legal career, I served as a Surface Nuclear Naval Officer in the U.S. Navy, where I operated nuclear reactor power plants and gained extensive experience managing complex technical systems. As the Propulsion Plant Watch Officer and Engineering Officer of the Watch, I was responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the reactor and propulsion systems. I also oversaw the navigation and operations of a destroyer as the Officer of the Deck, making mission-critical decisions and ensuring the safety of the ship and crew in demanding environments. My military service instilled strong leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, which continue to inform my approach to legal challenges.I am passionate about delivering results for clients, upholding the rule of law, and leveraging my diverse experiences to solve complex problems. As I continue to grow in my legal career, I am committed to providing exceptional service and contributing to the success of my clients in all areas of business and tort litigation.
