ABOUT THE INITIATIVE — The Oceanic Historical Society is an international research initiative dedicated to the study and preservation of the White Star Line’s superliner project of the 1920s, Oceanic. Established in 2018, the Society brings together researchers, historians, and enthusiasts with the shared goal of uncovering and consolidating information about a project that remains one of the most ambitious and least understood of its time. By combining independent areas of study, the Society works to build a centralized, evidence-based understanding of Oceanic, while placing her development within the broader context of early twentieth-century shipbuilding. Although never completed, the research and design work behind Oceanic influenced later liners and contributed to key developments in ship design and propulsion, particularly at Harland & Wolff. Through ongoing collaboration with archives, museums, and historians, the Society seeks to distinguish speculation from documented evidence while working to reconstruct the story of Oceanic as accurately and comprehensively as possible. Contributing historians include Eric Okanume, Richard Edwards, Teresa Trower, Tamás Balogh, Mark Chirnside, and Tom McCluskie.
