About Eric Gebbie

I\'ve worked in public health and emergency preparedness for a little over fifteen years. It\'s a great field that deals with a lot of science, program management, community collaborations with all sorts of government and non-governmental organizations.I\'ve served as a consultant on public health and emergency preparedness for public health. I primarily serve public health and healthcare agencies, university-based researchers and training centers, and non-profit organizations by providing training, exercise and evaluation services, and data analysis.My previous positions include Assistant Director of the University at Albany Center for Public Health Preparedness at the University at Albany School of Public Health in New York, as well as other staff positions at the preparedness centers of the University of Illinois at Chicago and Columbia University.I began working in public health preparedness in in New York City. My work has included the evaluation of the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene response to the terrorist attacks of 9/11, evaluation of the Arkansas State Department of Health response to hurricane Gustav, execution and evaluation of dozens of drills and exercises of all sizes, and training needs assessment of public health and healthcare workers. These projects have drawn on various technical, consulting, evaluation, and data gathering and analysis methods.My other experience includes fieldwork on human rights violation monitoring, foreign languages, and oral history collection. My international experience totals approximately 5 years in 30 countries. I completed a Masters in social anthropology and linguistics at the University of St Andrews in Scotland, a Masters in human rights and humanitarian affairs at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs, and a DrPH in Public Health Leadership from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
